Ricky Sanville wins in the DIRTcar Wells River Chevy Sportsman Coupes
Week 5 of the 56th consecutive season of racing at the Ridge.

For Immediate Release BRS-06032023-1

The Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank feature winners for June 3rd: Jason Gray in the Sabil & Sons DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds; Ricky Sanville in the Wells River Chevrolet DIRTcar Sportsman Coupes; Xtreme DIRTcar DMA Midgets Will Hull, High Country Dispensary Late Models Matt Lashua, LaValley Building Supply Dirt Stocks Mike McClay, Woodsville Power Equipment Ridge Runners Madness segment one: Travis King , Segment two Blake Buccellato, segment three: Devon Spinks, Segment four: Travis King Overall winner: Travis King.
Jason Gray is scored the first repeat winner in the Sabil & Sons DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds. Chasing a drive shaft demon, Gray took out the 6 machine of CV Elms in the heat race. Failing to qualify in an unfamiliar car that developed a brake issue, Gray decided he would temp the demon and take the famed 00 to the main event. Starting from the back Gray put the demon out of his mind and focused on the front spot, picking off his competitors one at a time. Only two cautions would slow the pace making it hard work to climb the ladder to the top in just thirty-five laps. With six laps to go he was on the heels of Todd Buckwold who was hoping to see the checkers first once again having been winless since August of last year. Buckwold will have to wait another week as Gray got by him with five to go and cruised on for his second win of the season. Buckwold held on for second with Melvin Pierson joining them in the third victory lane spot. Max Dolliver and Robert Tucker completed the top five.
What to tell, what to tell for the Wells River Chevrolet DIRTcar Sportsman Coupes? The show of the night in so many levels, we could do a whole press release on just this one race. Green to checkers? CHECK. an episode of deal or no deal? CHECK. Happiest visitor in victory lane? CHECK. Triple crown on the line? CHECK. Last week the legendary Coupes had one caution on lap one, and then went green to checkers, this week the green flew and along the way to the checkers was a caution free event that had the fans on the edge of their seats. First up was the chance for one driver to earn a triple crown. Having won his heat race and the semi/dash Ryan Christian had to only set his sights on the feature win to get the crown. Unfortunately, he would fall short by just ONE spot, and watch his chance of winning disappear as Ricky Sanville beat him to the line. Oh yeh, about Sanville, before feature time, he reported to the handicapper that he would have to scratch for the night due to a mechanical problem. After several conversations and troubleshooting, Sanville was in a “deal or no deal” situation, and decided with some apprehension to not take the deal and take his spot in line when it was feature time. Not knowing what was in the next case, or in this case lap, he took the green put it all on the line and from there went on to WIN the show, stealing the triple crown from Christian. He made a GREAT DEAL! The oldest driver and living legend in the Coupes, is very proud to say, yeh boys I still got it! “I ain’t as good as I once was, but I’m as good once as I ever was” (Toby Keith) Shepard looked to come home in second but lapped traffic gave Christian the chance he needed to get by him for the spot. Shepard still was more than happy to make it to the final victory lane spot third. Tod Hayward and Tim Hodge rounded out your top five.
The Xtreme DIRTcar DMA Midgets showed up with their best car count seen in some time. Always a great show, it is even better with a strong car count. With the draw for position in effect for the last week, starting with their next visit on June 17th they will once again be lined up based on a three-week average. This week though, Will Hull was able to capitalize on a good draw and strong heat win to finally get to the checkers first. Finally, because Hull knows his way around the Ridge and is no stranger to victory lane in any machine he straps in to, but for the Midgets it has been a year since he has been to the number one spot. Joining him in victory lane were the Piastka brothers, with Brandon beating out baby brother Daniel for the second spot. Rounding out the top five were Chris Murray who came from deep in the pack and last week’s feature winner at Albany Saratoga, and Justin Sheridan. The Xtreme DIRTcar DMA Midgets return to action at the Ridge on Saturday June 17th.
Matt Lashua continues to dominate in the High-Country Dispensary Late Models making it three in a row and the only driver in this limited field of cars to get a win. The rest of the pack is starting to do the bad luck dance, as it appears that may be the only way they might be able to dethrone him. Rob French the opening day car show winner is one of the ones doing the dance as he watched his lead be ripped away with just two laps to go, having to settle for his second in a row runner up position at the checkers. Joining them in victory lane in his first appearance in 2023 was Carl Eldridge. Tyler Tremblay and Dana Carter rounded out the top five.
It has been almost two years to the day since the last time Mike McClay was able to add his name to the winner’s circle in the LaValley Building Supply Dirt Stocks. Can we call him “Mr. June”? His consistency since his rookie year 2021 has put him in the top five at banquet time, but his visits to victory lane weekly have been far and few between over the past two years. This night he would make it back and make it back with a splash claiming the coveted top spot in victory lane beating out Andrew Fitzgerald who fell short of taking the lead followed by John Fields who joined the two in victory lane. Garrett Brown and Aren Keene rounded out the top five.
It was Madness night for the Woodsville Power Equipment Ridge Runners with over Three Thousand dollars in lap and purse money on the line. Travis King would earn the honors of being on the pole for the first of four segments of 22 laps as he brought in 21 laps for the pole. He would go on to lead all of segment one to take the win. The cars on the track at the checkers were inverted for the start of segment two. Blake Buccellato gets win number two with King making it all the way up to a money position crossing the line in fourth. Invert again for segment three and Devon Spinks comes home the winner with King making it all the way to third for the segment. With one more segment to go it is clear that it is shaping up to be Kings overall to lose as he was the only driver going into segment four with a points total of less than 10. King decided once again, having to come from deep in the pack to not only win the war but also the battle, taking over the lead on lap thirteen and cruising on to win the final segment and the overall victory. Spencer Braley’s overall points score him second. Logan Martin, tied with Tom Brown is scored in third due to his fourth-place finish over Brown’s ninth place in segment four. Brown is fourth with Katie Burroughs in fifth.
