Week 20 of the 56th consecutive season of racing at the Ridge.
For Immediate Release BRS-09162023-1
The Federated Auto Parts. feature winners for September 16th: Kyle Huntington in the Sabil & Sons DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds; Bob Shepard in the Wells River Chevrolet DIRTcar Sportsman Coupes; Xtreme DIRTcar DMA Midgets Chris Murray® , High Country Dispensary Late Models Segment one Matt Lashua, Segment two Todd Dunham, overall Matt Lashua; LaValley Building Supply Dirt Stocks Mike McClay; Woodsville Power Equipment Ridge Runners: Daegan Spinks; WYKR Sprint Cars of New England “the Professor” Chris Donnelly.
In the Sabil & Sons DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds Kyle Huntington stays on top to get his first win and punch his ticket to the coveted Growler event to be run on September 22rd. Huntington held off the hard fought challenges of Melvin Pierson to score the win with Brian Chaffee dogging the two crossing the line in third. Mike Ryan and Richie Simmons Rounded out the top five. Jason Gray finishes sixth and with so doing will be recorded your 2023 track champion and setting another record in history as this is his fourth in a row in the Sabil & Sons DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds.
For the love of God, who lit the fire under his ass? The ageless wonder finally gets that coveted win, his first if I am correct, since 2017 in the Wells River Chevrolet DIRTcar Sportsman Coupes. It is hard to say which was more fun to watch Shepard taking the point and surviving a couple of late cautions to beat out Terry Williams, as he continues to remind everyone he may have been on break for a while, but he’s back, or the crowd cheering Shepard on. Ali Pushee joins the pair in victory lane with his third-place finish. Jason Horniak and Matt Ellsworth who finished last last week, rounded out the top five. For the points battle the top ten will be the top ten providing they all take the green on their final event a 50 lapper on September 23rd. That green will see the Gary Corsi owned car driven by Tim Hodge getting his first championship at the Ridge. Third and fourth and sixth and seventh will come down to time trials to determine who will get those positions.
Always beware of the silent but deadly type as going into the night first and second in the points standings in the Xtreme DIRTcar DMA Midgets was divided by ONE point. At the end of the night after scoring his second win of the season the fourth-place guy is sitting on top of the heap and will, with the taking of the green on September 23rd be crowned the 2023 champion providing he does better in time trials then the runner up Will Hull. Chris Murray will not only be crowned the Champion he will also be awarded the Rookie honors in the division. the points would see were OFF and return to action on September 2nd. Joining Murray in victory lane were Manny Dias who finished second and Will Hull who took home the final victory lane spot. Daniel Piastka and Justin Sheridan rounded out the top five.
The High-Country Dispensary Late Models ended the season as one would expect with Matt Lashua winning the overall and taking home the championship. After time trials of which Todd Dunham set fast time at 14.831 the field took to the track twice with a Mazda style format. Segment one goes to Lashua with Dunham taking segment two. The combined point finish had Lashua over Dunham by one point with your 2023 Rookie of the year Scott Heath in third. Rob Rugg and Kelly Miller Sr. rounded out the top five.
The top five will next be recognized at our annual awards ceremony on Friday November 10th at the Lake Morey Resort in Fairlee VT.
For Andrew Fitzgerald it is time to breathe a sigh of relief in the LaValley Building Supply Dirt Stocks, as he can show up on the 23rd and just have some plain old fun. Fitzgerald with his third-place finish has secured his first championship at the Ridge. He joined Mike McClay who won the battle of the night to take home the checkers and Garrett Brown who crossed the line in second in victory lane. Shawn King and Pat Wheeler completed the top five.
Daegan Spinks beats Tom Brown to the line for the win in the Woodsville Power Equipment Ridge Runners. Kevin Harran his first time back in 2023 joins the pair in victory lane. Michael Paton and Spencer Braley rounded out the top five. Braley with his fifth-place finish will be scored the champ for the 2023 season in the Woodsville Power Equipment Ridge Runners, providing he takes the green for their final event of the season on the 23rd. Third and fourth will be determined by time trials as only three points separate those two positions.
Joe Mam’s Sporting Goods 4/6 Cylinder Enduro Off return to action on September 23, 2023.
In the WYKR (when at the Ridge) Sprint Cars of New England “the Professor” Chris Donnelly continues to dominate as he takes home his fourth checkers of the season beating out Jason Goff and Chase Muran. Nicholas Comeau and Troy Comeau rounded out the top five. This was the last event for 2023 for the WYKR (when at the Ridge) Sprint Cars of New England.
The night was concluded with two non-podium visiting competitors ten lap shoot out for the LaValley Building Supply Dirt Stocks and the Woodsville Power Equipment Ridge Runners. This was a brainchild of the Dirt Stock drivers who have made it to victory lane over the course of the season and they all chipped in to give the competitors a little extra cash in their pockets as well. Another fine example of what racing should be all about, a huge hats off to the drivers of the division! The three to make it victory lane were Shawn King, Timothy Blake and Hunter Garduno in that order. AJ Pushee Dawn Rumrill and Chris Cole rounded out the field. Management like this idea so much they decided to do the same race for the Woodsville Power Equipment Ridge Runners. Of the drivers that were able to take green, the three to make it the podium were Michael Paton Sr, Mike Martin and Westley Blake. The field was rounded out with Matt Lucas and Cory Collins.
