It was the first VP Racing Fuels DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds Eastern Region Series event for the Sabil & Sons DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds. After the always a sight to see four wide parade laps with race director Scotti Ingerson behind the wheel of the pace car, the field took the green waved by the famous DIRTcar Chief Starter Dave Farney. A jingle on the first lap would take out track co-owner/promoter C.V. Butch Elms who looked strong in his heat race, but sadly would have to watch the forty-lap main event of the night. The full field quickly settled down and from there went green to checkers until lap thirty-eight. Jason Gray, drawing the starting position in the redraw, figured he had this one in the bag and was able to hold off the hard-fought challenges of Nick Heywood and Max Dolliver. Heywood would get shuffled back a bit, watching his chance at setting a strong challenge on Gray slip away. Dolliver was able to capitalize on lapped traffic and took the lead from Grey on lap twenty. Gray and Dolliver would do some heavy battle for the second half of the race with lapped traffic continuing to play a factor on the duo. Dolliver survived the second caution on lap thirty-eight and held off Gray for the win. Robert Tucker and rookie sensation Tad Kingsbury would round out your top five. Up next on the series schedule the boys will be headed to Glen Ridge for event number two on Sunday May 19th.
In the Wells River Chevrolet DIRTcar Sportsman Coupes Jason Horniak fell one spot shy of winning a triple crown. It took a while for the field to get started, and several restarts helped to bring Horniak and Cody Gregoropoulos to the front. Josh Harrington coming from the second row got to the front and was able to hold of Horniak and Gregoropoulos as the three finally crossed the start finish line for the checkers in that order. Miachael Danforth last week’s feature winner and Ricky Sanville rounded out the top five.
In the Xtreme DIRTcar DMA Midgets OFF return to action May 18th.
The High-Country Dispensary Late Models OFF return to action May 18th.
In the LaValley Building Supply Dustin Towle coming from deep in the pack works his way to the front and takes home his second win in a row, quickly making him the one everyone will be after in the weeks to come. Towle took the lead from John Fields who led all but the last three laps of the night and would find himself shuffled back to the third and final victory lane spot. Andrew Fitzgerald beat Fields to line for second. Mike McClay and Keith Mansur rounded out the top five.
It didn’t take long for Kevin LaForest to remind the competition in the Woodsville Power Equipment Ridge Runners that he knew how to get around the famed clay oval, as he worked his way from deep the pack to take the lead from Travis King and cruise on for the win. King appeared to be having some mechanical problems, which may or may not have played into LaForest’s win, but rest assured those two will be doing battle again and either one could be the one to land on top. Last week’s feature winner Randy Morrill made his way up to second with Kelly Miller Jr. taking home the final victory lane spot. Raven Streeter had a strong run coming home in fourth with King holding on for fifth.
The R.E. Hinkley Granite State Mini Sprints made their first appearance of the season with over forty machines representing them in their two classes, the 500cc’s and the 600cc’s. Taking home the win in the 500cc was Jake Macintyre with Ed Vickery and Nicholas Tosi joining him in victory lane. Tyler Vickery and Larry Tosi rounded out your top five. In the 600cc it was Chase Rogers the winner with Teagan Daignault in second place and Luke Hinkley taking home third. Justin Burr and Mark Wiggett rounded out the top five.
