For Immediate Release BRS-080815-1
BRADFORD, VT – The annual John Poor Memorial night sponsored by Walker Motor Sales was recorded as yet another great night of racing on the ¼ Bear Ridge Speedway clay oval.
The DIRTcar Bond Auto Parts Sportsman Modifieds got off to a shaky start with a couple cautions slowing the pace before they could finally settle down for some great edge of your seat racing. Adam Pierson worked his was from the back of pack to take over the lead from rookie Steven Flint who was having the best race of his season on lap nineteen. Pierson would cruise on for the win over Derek Graham and Jordan Fornwalt who came home in third. Mike Gendron and Kevin Chaffee rounded out the top five.
Mike Gendron is able to join the elite club of multiple wins for season, as he claimed the checkers on the fast track after the rains. Gendron took the lead away from Gary Siemons and never looked back. Siemons was able to hold on to the runner up spot for only his third visit to the coveted victory lane. Richie Simmons was the lucky third place finisher joining the two in victory lane. Completing the top five were Kevin Chaffee and Derek Graham.
For the DIRTcar Wells River Chevrolet Sportsman Coupes it was all about madness and money as they came to the grid competing for double points and close to $8000 in purse money. The field was set for four 27 lap segments of completion with the point leader Bob Shepard coming in with the most points gaining him the point for the first segment. When the checkers waved on the first segment it was Thomas Placey taking the win with Melvin Pierson and Tim Hodge rounding the top three. The field was inverted for the second segment and when the checkers waved on the green to checker event it was Jason Colbeth on point with Mitchell Frost and Josh Harrington finishing the top three. Segment three was inverted from segment two and at the end it was Tim Hodge crossing the line first with Jeremy Beckley and Matt Ellsworth completing the top three. The field was again inverted from the finish of the third segment for the start of the fourth and the points were tight with Tim Hodge and Thomas Placey tied for first and Bob Shepard in third, and a three way tie for fourth between Jeremy Beckley, Josh Harrington, and Melvin Pierson. When the checkers waved on the final segment it was Michael Danforth for the win with Melvin Pierson and Josh Harrington in third. When the overall points were tallied it was Bob Shepard for the win be a mere point with Melvin Pierson and Tim Hodge tied for second. In madness the tie is broken by the finish of the last segment which is what gave Pierson the runner up spot and Hodge the third place finish. Josh Harrington and Matt Ellsworth completed the top five.
This coming week Walker Motor Sales John Poor Memorial night is the DIRTcar Sportsman Coupe Madness night and to date the numbers show that they will be going for over $8000.00 in purse money!
There wasn’t a person in the house who wasn’t ecstatic to see the outcome of the USAC DMA Midgets feature event. Mike Chaffee has had a year from, well you know, struggling weekly to get his machine working, and with his luck no one would have been the least bit surprised if that monkey didn’t strike again. But tonight was the night when all that would end, and end it did, as Chaffee held off the hard fought charges of the willy veteran Ray Miller who dogged Chaffee for most of the race, looked almost ready to steal the lead late, but would have to settle in for second and Chaffee wasn’t gonna let anyone, not even a legend take away his win. Miller came home in the second place spot with his team mate Dean Christensen coming home in third. Robert Tucker in his first appearance in the Midgets came home in second with Josh Sunn claiming fifth.
The nights win for Tim Martin ties him once again with point leader James Fadden holding three each.. Martin led all of the twenty lap feature in the Crazy Ed’s Limited Late Models feature. Matt Lashua the runner up king came from last to grab the second place spot for the fifth time this season, James Fadden took home the final piece of hardware finishing third. Doug Boucher and Matt Boucher completed the top five.
It only took the point leader and rookie Justin Severance in the Weglarz Property Service/F.M.S. Auto Parts Four Cylinders fifteen weeks to get his first win at the Ridge and he did it with fine fashion taking the point away from the leader on the las lap. Jesse Durkee held on for the second place spot with Mike Ryan taking home the final victory lane spot in third. Jim Durkee and rookie Robert Welch completed the top five.
