Buster Kathan remembered as his number led the 30 lap DIRTcar Wells River Chevrolet Sportsman Coupe Feature
For Immediate Release BRS-090118-01
Valley Floors night at Bear Ridge Speedway was an action packed evening with lots of great racing, ending with a field filled endure that had the fans on their feet.
It was new face in victory lane in the Sabil & Sons DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds as Steven Flint took the lead away from Mike Ryan on lap 28 and went on to score his first win. Richie Simmons and Jordan Fornwalt didn’t have enough to set a hard challenge on Flint. Ryan Christian and Mike Ryan completed the top five.
It was an emotional night for the Wells River Chevrolet DIRTcar Sportsman Coupes as they took to the track in celebration of one of ours taken to soon this past week. Buster Kathan driver of the 13 bull horns, passed away at home. In honor and memory of their fellow competitor a Blackmount Equipment Semi Feature was run with 13 laps. Josh Harrington took home the checkers for that event. The feature saw the 13 on top of the board and Buster’s number held on to cross the line first in their 30 lap main event. The score board showed Earl Maxham crossing the line in second, thus the winner of the event with Tad Kingsbury second and Tanner Siemons in third. Matt Ellsworth and Kevin Dickinson completed the top five.
The Laquerre’s Sports USAC Dirt Midgets were off and will return on September 8th.
The C.A. Miller Co. Limited Late Models were off and will return on September 8th.
Buddy Welch gets his fifth win of the season in the Weglarz Property Service Four Cylinder feature. Coming from a mid pack starting spot he worked his way to the front to go on for the win with Bobby Bell coming home in second and Jason Porter taking the final victory lane spot in third. Jesse Durkee and rookie Cody Copeland completed the top five.
The WYKR Sprint Cars of New England had their best car count of the season, with 16 of the dirt pounding machines in the pits. Will Hull after surviving a wild ride in his heat race was seen in the 23 machine of Christine Boesch, dropping the field to 15 at the green. Lacey Hanson worked her way to the front and was able to hold off the hard charges of Matt Hoyt and Luke Greenwood for her first win at the Ridge. Hoyt and Greenwood crossed the line in second and third with Adam Pierson and Jacob Williams rounding out the top five. The WYKR Sprint Cars of New England will make one more trip to the Ridge on October 14th.
The State Farm Mike Estrada 4/6 Enduro event had an entry list of close to fifty machines, and when the flag dropped it was a true site to see. 75 laps of endurance is what will bring you to the top of the heap, and with only one red flag delay when the dust settled it was Frank Putty crossing the line first with Michael Labounty taking home second an Peter Childs third. Bruce Poirer and Ryan Pallas rounded out the top five. The State Farm Mike Estrada 4/6 Cylinder Enduros can be seen next at the Ridge on September 22nd.
