The Sabil & Sons DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds were honored to host the first of two DIRTcar Sportsman East Series events and welcomed the handful of drivers who made the trek to our hidden gem in the Vermont hills. After timed hot laps and heat races the top three of each heat race were eligible for a redraw to determine the starting lineup for the full field of earth pounding machines. Fast time setter Jason Gray drew the 4th position chip and watched while three of the outsiders tried to pull the pole. With only three chips left our local Max Dolliver, Nick Heywood and Jason Bruno both from Airbourne Speedway hoped each could snag the pole chip which was still in play. Dolliver would be the one to claim the point for their forty-lap main event. Heywood drew the 5th place chip putting him one row behind Gray. Dolliver survived two restarts, one early and one mid-way thru the event to hold off both who were vying for the point spot while they battled for second place. With just three laps to go Gray taking advantage of lapped traffic snuck by Dolliver and went on to take the checkers first, waved by the legendary DIRTcar chief starter Dave Farney. Dolliver was able to hold off Heywood for second. DJ Robinson and Matt Lashua rounded out the top five. We wish to thank once again all of the competitors and DIRTcar officials who were with us. We can only hope that you enjoyed the night and will be back again on July 29th for the second Series event at the Ridge.
In the Wells River Chevrolet DIRTcar Sportsman Coupes Todd Hayward was on a mission to vindicate himself from his opening mechanical problems which prevented him from starting the main event. His second-place qualifying spot gave him the opportunity for the redraw which put him in the second row of the field beside Ryan Christian who finished last week in second. Christian with Matt Ellsworth tight on his tail made his way to the front on a restart early in the race and before they made it around to score a lap Hayward split the two. From there the three of them set the pace for the rest of the event. Hayward and Ellsworth would have nothing for Christian as he grabbed the checkers with the duo tight behind in that order. Ricky Sanville and Jason Horniak rounded out the top five.
The Xtreme DIRTcar DMA Midgets return to action on Saturday May 20th.
Matt Lashua claims his second win of the season in the High-Country Dispensary Late Models. Starting from last he is letting everyone know that it doesn’t matter where you start at the beginning in matters where you finish at the end. Kelly Miller comes home in second with Tyler Tremblay grabbing the final victory lane spot. Scott Heath and Rob French once again rounded out the top five.
None of the three to victory lane in the LaValley Building Supply Dirt Stocks were on the front row at the start, but at the end were able to get the feat accomplished and finish there. The first to cross the line was John Fields with Mike Mann advancing five spots to grab second and Garrett Brown who also advanced five spots coming home in third. Andrew Fitzgerald had a great run crossing the line in fourth with last week’s feature winner Pat Wheeler coming from the last qualifying spot and made it up to fifth.
In the Woodsville Power Equipment Ridge Runners, the “Brothers Morrill” claim their respective heat race wins and both go on to finish in the top ten in their main event. Randy Morrill, starting on the pole was able to hold off the hard-fought challenges of his competitors until last year’s champ showed up on his door. Logan Martin proved once again why he is a champ as he put his machine in front of Morrill and went on to grab the win. Morrill held on for second with Tom Brown claiming the final victory lane spot third. Devon Spinks is scored in fourth, and Hayden Bishop last week’s feature winner who came up thru the field from the last qualifying spot completed the top five.

The price of a regular show general admission (front gate) ticket for adults (ages 17 to 61) is $12.00 a person. Seniors 62 and older $10.00. Teens 12 to 16 WITH a paying adult $10.00, and children 11 and under WITH a paying Adult $2.00. Military Discounts are available at $2.00 off for those with a valid ID. The back gate (pit gate) ticket price for Bear Ridge Speedway and DIRTcar 2023 license holders is $30.00. Non-license holders are $35.00 (both prices include the front gate ticket.)
