55th opening night at the Ridge goes in the record books a huge success.
For Immediate Release BRS-050820221
It was a full day of activities and racing action with festivities starting at the Bradford Fair Grounds with over ninety cars showing off their machines for the many fans who stopped by. A huge thank you goes out to the Fair committee for holding this annual event. From there the drivers made their way up to the Ridge for their first spin around the famed quarter mile clay oval in an exclusive practice session for the attendees before the rest of the competition arrived putting close to a hundred and twenty drivers in the pits anxious to grab the first green flag of the 55th opening consecutive season of racing at the Ridge. We cant thank the fans, the competitors, crews, and families enough for making our opening night of our 55th consecutive season always owned or operated by the same family such a huge success!! THANK YOU.
The first feature winners of the 55th consecutive season for the F.M.S. NAPA Auto Parts of Bradford VT were Jason Gray in the Sabil & Sons DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds; Tad Kingsbury in the Wells River Chevrolet DIRTcar Sportsman Coupes; USAC DMA Midgets Brandon Piastka R&L Auto Towing and Recovery Late Models Matt Lashua, LaValley Building Supply Dirt Stocks Lucas Wheeler, Peanuts Auto LLC Ridge Runners Feature #1 Tom Brown Feature #2 Jason Porter.
Jason Gray the past two seasons reigning champion of the Sabil & Sons DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds quickly reminded everyone that he would once again be the one to beat It would take him 25 laps to work his way from mid pack starting position which clearly shows that there is some stiff competition in this field for 2022. James Fadden starting on the point would be the one to get bumped by Gray, but he was able to hold on to the runner up position. Mat Lashua would also fall victim to Gray in the last five laps and would see himself taking the final victory lane position, crossing the finish line in third. Richie Simmons and Jeremy Huntoon both with very impressive runs came across for the checkers in the fourth and fifth positions.
In the Wells River Chevrolet DIRTcar Sportsman Coupes Tad Kingsbury also the past two seasons reigning champion was able to make it from his mid pack starting position a bit quicker than Gray to the point, but by no means any easier with competition just as stiff in this division. Kingsbury was able to hold off the hard fought challenges of Tim Hodge after bumping Cody Gregoropoulos off the point for the win. Hodge joined him in victory lane in second with Thomas Placey able to get by Gregoropoulos with just five to go to claim the final victory lane spot. Gregoropoulos held on to fourth with Matt Ellsworth taking home fifth.
It was a history making moment in the USAC DMA Midgets feature with all three spots being claimed from the same stable of that of the very famous Modified Driver Ray Miller. Miller never one to be in the spotlight was coaxed into joining his three drivers in victory for a photo op for this historical event, an early birthday present for him his special day being May 8th. Rookie Daniel Piastka started on the point and was able to hold off his brother Brandon Piastka until lap twenty after working his way thru traffic from deep in the pack. The final teammate Justin Sheridan joined the two of them in victory lane in the third position. Josh Sunn and Seth Carlson rounded out the top five.
Matt Lashua doing double duty first in the R& L: Auto Towing & Recovery Late Models gets recorded with the win beating out Ryan Christian asl doing double duty who crossed tight behind in second. Kelly Miller Sr grabbed the final victory lane spot with Trevor Strong and Rookie Parker Piper coming home in fourth and fifth respectfully.
The LaValley Building Supply Dirt Stocks will be the division to watch as the car count continues to grow. With some returning regulars and some eager rookies moving up from the Ridge Runner division winning is not going to be as easy as it has been in the past. Lucas Wheeler one of the originals who started the division in 2020 grabs the first checkers of the season with a couple of Mikes joining him in victory lane. Mike McClay is scored in second with Mike Mann taking home third. Dustin Towle and Rooke Garrett Brown rounded out the top five.
The Peanuts Auto LLC Ridge Runners are starting off even stronger than they were in 2021 with over thirty drivers hoping to make it to victory lane, affording them once again two features giving each of them a better opportunity to do just that. In the first feature Tom Brown was able to grab the checkers with Katie Burroughs coming home in second her best finish in her career. Randy Morrill would be the final one to join them in victory lane with Shane Stygles and Kevin Keene finishing out the top five. Feature two was filled with familiar faces in victory lane as Jason Porter gets to the front in his fine fashion to take the win over Logan Martin and Buddy Welch. Kevin LaForest last year’s champion is scored in fourth with Travis King taking home fifth.
